Hey everyone, I'm Adrian, and welcome to "Code Compass"! I'm guessing you're here because you're curious about how a nurse like me ended up diving headfirst into the world of software engineering. Well, grab a cup of coffee (or tea, if that's your thing!), get comfy, and let me tell you a bit about my journey.
From Bedside to Backend
For years, I dedicated myself to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse. It was an incredibly rewarding experience that taught me empathy, patience, and the importance of perseverance – qualities I carry with me to this day. But then the pandemic hit, and like many healthcare professionals, I faced burnout. The constant pressure and emotional toll took their toll.
But every cloud has a silver lining, right? That challenging period forced me to re-evaluate my path and explore new possibilities. I'd always been fascinated by technology, and I started to see how I could use my skills to make a difference in a new way. That's when the spark ignited, and I decided to pursue software engineering.
The Coding Bug Bites
It's funny how things come full circle. As a nurse, I was constantly interacting with technology – patient databases, electronic health records, you name it. I went from asking "How do I use this?" to "How was this built?" And before I knew it, I was hooked.
Taking the Leap
Switching careers is never easy, and believe me, learning to code was like entering a whole new universe. New languages, new concepts, a whole new way of thinking! But there's something exhilarating about pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, and I was determined to make this work.
Coding with a Nurse's Heart
Now, I'm fully immersed in the world of coding, and I'm loving every minute of it. I'm constantly learning and growing, and I'm amazed by how much my nursing background actually helps me as a developer. It's all about problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail – skills that translate surprisingly well to the tech world.
The Digital Nomad Dream
So, what's next? My big goal is to become a digital nomad. Imagine coding from a beach in Bali or a cozy café in the Italian countryside! That freedom and flexibility are what I'm striving for.
